John’s long association with educational provision in the area has been driven by his passion for wanting the best learning, educational experiences, and outcomes for young people. His career is based on five years as a secondary teacher in York City schools, five years in Adult and Community provision, leading North Yorkshire’s largest independent centre, integrated and led within Northallerton School and Sixth form provision. This was followed by over twenty years as a senior leader in large secondary schools, with post-16 provision and nine years as a Headteacher.
John’s experience has included leading and supporting both ‘good’ schools, those in ‘special measures’ and ‘National Challenge’ as graded by Ofsted and the Department for Education, respectively.
Working with schools in ‘special measures’ created many opportunities for John to work innovatively and collaboratively to bring rapid improvements in student learning and outcomes.
John, until his appointment to the Trust Board was the Chair of Governors at Ainderby Steeple CE Primary and South Otterington CE Primary School, supporting both schools in their recent journeys to positive Ofsted judgements.
