Sports Premium Funding

The Government provides Sports Premium Funding to all schools comprising of a £10,000 lump sum and £10 per pupil in Years 1 – 6.  The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

We access a range of Partnership’s including Richmondshire School Games Organiser and North Yorkshire Sport to enhance our provision and ensure that the children participate in as many inter school events as possible.  Our school teams are very successful and we have a some children in school competing at a very high level (including successfully in national competitions).  Participation in a range of sports and enjoying physical activity is very important to us.

At Great Smeaton Primary School we utilise the funding to five areas:

• The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
• The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school
• Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff teaching PE and sport
• Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
• Increased participation in competitive sport
